About Lisa Doherty.

Nature & Wildlife Artist

Lisa is a mixed media artist, creating her signature wildlife portraits with watercolor enhanced with colored pencil, out of her home studio on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Lisa’s artwork reflects her nature studies of Eastern North America from Maine to Florida.

She attended The Cincinnati Art Academy while in high school, then went on to The Columbus College of Art & Design, and finally earned her BFA from the University of Cincinnati’s School of Design, Architecture, Art & Planning, with a double minor in Psychology and Sociology. With her love of the sciences, it is no wonder she is the type of artist who thrives off of the study of plant and animal anatomy, while creatively tricking the viewer’s eye with painterly brush strokes combined with pencil point detail that walks the line between fine art and scientific illustration.

Her style of art has become wildly popular with pet owners, as she has the ability to capture not only their likeness, but their personality. The tilt of the head, the sparkle in their eyes, their quirky little ear-flop, or markings that are unique to them and beloved by their family.

The name Fieldside Studio came about while Lisa was literally walking the fieldsides of Northern New England, taking reference photos of farm animals and botanicals that caught her eye. The name Fieldside was more meaningful than just proximity. Her mother-in-law, originally from North Yorkshire, England, came up with the name Fieldside Lane for the address of their home. Lisa thought the name was fitting and perfect to carry on.

When she’s not in her studio, she home educates her son, working in tandem between Physics and watercolor, essays and drawings, nature hikes, field trips, cooking up something good, boating with her husband Rich, and giving all the best attention to her little pug velcroed to her side.
